Aquatopia - Aalst (Belgium)

In October, Variopool engineers put the finishing touches to a comprehensive installation project at the brand-new Aquatopia swimming pool in Aalst, Belgium. Designed by Slangen + Koenis Architects, this modern swimming complex aims to attract swimmers from all over Belgium. With the name Aquatopia, the pool positions itself as a contemporary and distinctive sports and recreational facility within the region.

Aquatopia is also a lasting tribute to Ilse Uyttersprot and her father Raymond, both of whom played an important role in the history of the Aalsterse swimming pool. The 25 x 35-metre pool bears Ilse Uyttersprot's name and the 50-metre pool is named after Raymond Uyttersprot. In addition, the tribute signs from the old pool have also been given a prominent place in the new complex.

Multiple Variopool solutions in one project

For this project, Variopool installed several innovative pool solutions. A total of two movable pool floors were installed with dimensions of 25 x 21 metres and 25 x 12.5 metres. These floors allow for flexible adjustment of the pool depth, thus optimally facilitating different target groups and activities.

In addition, a vertical retaining wall was installed in the competition pool, allowing the pool to be easily split into two sections. This allows several activities to take place simultaneously. Variopool also took care of the complete pool equipment, including stairs, buoyancy lines and lead-through systems.

For added safety, the pool is equipped with the Angeleye anti-drunkling system. This system continuously monitors the underwater image and supports staff supervision. The project was realised in cooperation with partners Waterfly, Orka, Hellebrekers and WVL Betonboringen.
