The sports centre

A modern and versatile sports centre has been built in Winchester. About half of the building is equipped as a swimming pool, while the rest consists of rooms for indoor sports and a fully equipped gymnasium.

Contribution of Variopool

Variopool supplied and assembled two movable floors, a vertical retaining wall and a disabled platform for this project. Dry assembly started in late 2020 and the pool was commissioned in May 2021.

Design and facilities

The project was commissioned by Willmott Dixon for the Winchester Sport & Leisure Park and designed by LA Architects. The complex features a 50-metre 8-lane competition pool, a 20 x 10-metre instruction pool and a children's water area.

Design and facilities

The competition pool has a movable floor (23.5 x 19 metres) and a 19-metre-long tilting retaining wall. The instruction pool has a moveable floor of 20 x 10 metres, including integrated stairs and a wheelchair-accessible lift platform.

Flexible and energy-efficient

Thanks to these solutions, operator Everyone Active - SLM can easily offer different activities and lessons for all target groups. Moreover, when the floors are at deck level, the energy consumption of the pools is reduced.
