The advantages of hydrotherapy with a movable pool floor: safe rehabilitation with variable water depth

Hydrotherapy

adjustable to treatment method, target group and desired intensity level

Hydrotherapy-also called aquatic physiotherapy-is a recognised treatment method within the medical world. Moving in water makes therapy possible for people who have limited capacity on dry land, for instance due to pain, instability, neurological complaints or recovery after surgery. The buoyancy of water makes movement feel lighter, while resistance actually helps build strength and endurance.

Variopool supports therapy pools with solutions such as the movable pool floor and (where necessary) retaining walls. This creates a therapy environment that can be precisely adjusted to the treatment method, the target group and the desired intensity level.

Variable water depth: the key to effective therapy

Each therapeutic approach requires a specific water depth. Think of shoulder-deep water (around 140-160 cm) for controlled “sinking” into the water, hydrotherapy exercises around 100-130 cm, aqua jogging around 180 cm, and swimming exercises that can range from 50 to 180 cm. With a moveable bottom, you adjust these depths quickly and precisely-without time-consuming conversions or programme limitations.

A key advantage is that the water depth not only determines the exercise, but also the load: by adjusting the height of the bottom, you control very precisely how much weight and pressure the body experiences. This helps to build up responsibly, tailored to the stage of recovery and the objective of the session.

Collaboration with hydrotherapy professionals and knowledge sharing

Variopool does not employ therapists, but cooperates with experienced professionals in hydrotherapy. From this cooperation, we organise workshops for users of our solutions, focusing on different methodologies and applications within aquatic rehabilitation. This way, we support not only the technology, but also the optimal use of the therapy pool in practice.

Simple operation for daily use

A movable pool floor is designed for practical everyday use. Operation is via a user-friendly touch panel on the pool wall and requires no specialised technical knowledge. This allows the therapy pool to be used efficiently for multiple target groups and programmes on a single day.

Temperature also often plays a role within therapy. In therapy baths, the water temperature is usually adjusted to the desired intensity and comfort, for example within a range of 28 to 34 degrees.

Accessible boarding: from platform height to aids

A therapy environment requires safe and accessible boarding. The moveable floor can be adjusted to platform/platform height, flush with the bath edge. This lowers the threshold for patients with mobility problems and reduces the physical load for therapists during transfers and guidance.

In addition, extensions are possible that further improve accessibility, such as:

  • a moveable access staircase
  • a disabled platform
  • a ramp

These options support independent access to the water and make the therapy pool suitable for a wide range of users.

Additional functionality: underwater treadmill and integrated applications

For specific rehabilitation goals, integration of additional training technology is possible, such as an underwater treadmill. An underwater treadmill can be seamlessly integrated into the design of the movable floor. This optimises training efficiency, as patients do not have to keep turning around at the end of the pool and therapy can flow smoothly.

Broad employability within care and rehabilitation

Hydrotherapy is applied in various fields, including:

  • orthopaedics and sports rehabilitation
  • rheumatology
  • neurology
  • paediatrics
  • cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation

Precisely because of variable water depth, accessible entry and precise controllability, a therapy pool with movable pool floor becomes a versatile and future-proof facility.
